I used to experience debilitating fear when I was lead climbing. I felt it so strongly that I knew I had to do something about it. Overcoming my fear on the wall did not seem to be the solution. So I went about approaching and conquering fear in my every day life. By facing fears in less dangerous situations I was able to slowly empower myself, and this translated positively to my climbing experiences. By facing fear in everyday life we empower ourselves - and when we are empowered internally, we have more self esteem and confidence which leads to less fear. It's a round about way to improve in climbing, but it works.
